happy christmas
I hope you have all been having a lovely holiday and stuffing your faces with Christmas goodness!
I've just been taking it easy and lying low, still don't have any plans for new years eve, but I'm just really looking forward to our camping trip next week, so I'm actually not too bothered!
This picture is a photo that I took of one of the stamps I recently re-discovered during a massive cleanup of my room. I used to collect stamps (yip, pretty nerdy I was) and my great aunt in Canada used to help by collecting for me and sending stamps to me every now and then. It was so cool to find these again and I think I need to put them all into a proper album very soon...

split pin ring
I've been a a mood to make things lately and when I found a box of split pins in my toolbox, I just had to try this. Pretty silly I know, but I like it!

a little surprise
Such a nice surprise this morning, I randomly clicked on one of the sites from my "daily reads" list (you know, those sites that you check every now and then for eye-candy and inspiration) and as the page started to load, I saw my Charles Dickens illustration in and amongst all the other awesome bits and pieces of collected inspiration on The Thought Studio. I'm trying to be all nonchalant about this, but I guess this is kind of my first taste of "internet recognition", and inside I'm jumping on all the furniture!
So thank you kind person who runs The Thought Studio, seeing your work on a blog that you look to for inspiration and work to admire is such a nice feeling.

Behance network
I've finally joined the Behance Network and created my portfolio! This is something I've wanted to do for ages, but basically lacked courage to put my work online, in a place full of brilliant creatives. But I guess since starting this blog I've managed to gather up some confidence and since I'm basically a qualified Graphic Designer now, it seems like a good move.

desktop wallpapers
This is a set of wallpapers/ screensavers that I made for the exhibition but ended up not using because the system preferences panel was locked on the mac that Stuart and I were sharing for our stand. Anyway, I've decided to put them up here and share them with you instead!
Click on the one you like for a bigger image, then simply save and use.

It was our exhibition on Tuesday night! After what felt like an eternity, the night flew by. It all went really well and now I suppose this means that we can all relax! I still can't believe that third year is over and I do feel pretty sad at the thought of not seeing most of my class next year. I have applied for one more year of study, a BTech degree in Graphic Design. I think it will be worth it, as it means that we (finally) get to specialise in a specific area. I'm really not sure yet what to specialise in, but I do have a few rough ideas swimming around in my head...
nearly there
A screenshot of my desktop, with a wallpaper I made to cheer myself up by remembering that it's not too long now before our trip to the mountains...

take me to the mountains
It's nearly, nearly, that time of year again - camping time! I can't wait...
I made this collage out of photos from the previous three camping trips that Steve and I have been on. We discovered Jamaka Organic Farm in December 2009 and have been going back ever since. This is honestly the best campsite I've ever been to. Each spot is really private, secluded by trees and bushes, so even though it's in the middle of the hot hot Cedarberg, it's still nice and shady. There is an amazing rock pool to swim in and all the camp sites are along the river. Such a beautiful place.

goodbye third year!
Can't believe it's this time of year already - today we handed in our last projects and portfolios and in just under two weeks time it's our graduate exhibition. Crazy stuff. Here are some silly pictures of me looking silly, holding up the last thing that I need to hand in today, my application for next year, a BTech degree in Graphic Design...

you would look great in my studio
Something amazing that I just discovered thanks to Pinterest - this is an awesome concept from a Korean company called Mintpass. I so wish that I had a fat credit card and that these were more than just concepts, because I would definitely order one straight away! I need a hard-drive and have sort-of been shopping around for one lately, but so far all I can see are black, bulky lumps of expensive plastic and circuit board (ok, i'm not going to pretend to know exactly how a hard-drive works)...
Ooh father christmas, you can add this to my wishlist!

very distant memories
These pictures made me laugh, back in first year we had to photograph a designer or creative person in their workspace. Almost all of us just photographed each other, I don't think we were being lazy, we just didn't have time to find real designers, or something along those lines anyway! So these are some shots of me, pretending to be very productive and thoughtful, in my (old) room/studio that my friend, Leigh, took.
Funny funny...

progress/procrastination
Type stencils for the posters - it's taken about 2 hours to make these, but from the start of this project I have been determined to spend as little time in front of a screen and at the print shop as possible, so it's all going to be worth it. Next step... handmade cd covers.
finishing touches
I must be on a roll with this blogging thing, i mean, 6 posts in 2 days? what nerd/procrastinator i am. This is a screenshot of something that I'm currently working on. Part of a poster series that will go with my corporate identity in time for the big bad graduate exhibition. Just under a month with too much to do! Fun times ahead.

better than christmas
The rubber stamps for my personal corporate identity have been ordered and will be ready for collection tomorrow afternoon. I'm so excited! Can't wait to start stamping... I have a feeling that I will end up stamping a lot more than just business cards and letterheads, soon my whole room, including my face hands and lunchbox will be covered in inky logo's and contact information and then I will need a whole bottle of Handy Andy to come clean.
Super excited!

lost in toner valley
These are some old printouts that didn't quite come out right, because my old inkjet printer was running low on ink, but I actually really love the way they look. They are both pictures of my boyfriend, who has been in countless photoshoots and random poses for me over the past three years of my graphic design course! Thank you Mr. S for always being a top class model, without you, so many of my projects would not be the same.
