editorial

Some quick and silly doodles I did in my new magazine that I bought to pass the time this long long weekend! It's nice to be drawing again, even if it's just something basic like this. I know these drawings are weird, don't judge me ok!

fire through the window

Snapped this yesterday on the way to lunch with my parents to celebrate my graduation (!)
Apparently this was a "controlled burn", which sounds like a pretty crazy thing to do, but I guess it's actually very important. I think all us Capetonians get a little anxious when we see our mountain on fire.

two wheels

Guess what! I finally have a bicycle! It's not new and it needs some love, but I'm still so excited about it. Will post some proper "before and after" pictures when I have a chance, but I thought I would just take one of its sweet logo sticker for now.

mowbray dark

Some photos of my neighbourhood that I've been gathering for my research project. I took these quite a few weeks ago, on a public holiday Wednesday, so the streets were pretty deserted. Not sure why I made them so grainy though!

this weekend in pictures

This weekend wasn't the happiest, simply because I had all four wisdom teeth removed (see sad swollen face on left side) on Friday morning. Nice. But at least I got some good use out of my phone camera!

Some more pictures of peachy-pink-perfect-haired ladies!

One last gif for the evening! I just love this.

"When I stay in on the weekend to do work, I always just end up like..."

pink haze

One crazy dream I've has for long time now is to die my hair a mad colour... but I've always been too scared to go for it. My hair hasn't been dyed that much and so is still relatively "natural". There was this one time about 5 years ago when I had just finished school and I for some reason felt the need for blue hair. I didn't really know how to go about it and was in a very impulsive mood, so I simply grabbed a bottle of blue food colouring and headed to the bathroom sink! Needless to say, it didn't really work out too well.

I'm really loving these pictures of this pretty pink-haired model floating around a big city, you know, all glamorous and stuff. I think this might just be my next move...

hello instagram

I signed up to instagram this week and already I think I might be hooked. It is all still a bit new for me, so not sure how often I'll be using or what kind of shots I'll be sharing, but hey! What's wrong with another little distraction anyway?

happy easter everybody

Happy Easter to everyone that celebrated it yesterday! (Or, if you were like me, you've been celebrating all week - I'm so sick of chocolate by now!) I thought these were a bunch of great ideas, especially the first two images, so sweet!

a new stage!

all the old tree planters were nicely decked out, creating a great seating and chill area for the kids at break time

Finally some photos of what I've been up to lately! These were taken a little while ago at Sakumlandela Primary School in Kayelitsha, one of Cape Town's largest informal settlements. This was also part of the Fresh Talent Challenge, linked to the Nokak Sustainable Design Showcase. All the finalists were divided into three main groups, home, school and play. I was in the school group and it was our job to fix up and improve the school, to the best of our ability, with the materials that were given to us.  Our group managed to get a lot done in only a week and despite the sweltering heat and physical and mental fatigue, this was definitely a rewarding experience. I was in the "painting team" and the three of us were in charge of cheering up the rather dull and tired-looking outside play area. We decided to keep things simple and came up with a colourful geometric design, using different sized triangles. All the paint work was done using B-Earth environmentally-friendly paint.

Polystyrene is bad news

Here is the short stop-motion video that Lisa and I made together as part of our submission for the Sustainable Design Showcase that took place in March at the Cape Town City Hall. This video basically explains our campaign in a quick and informative way. Hope you enjoy!

No Kak in our Coffee - print elements

Now that the Sustainable Design Showcase is over, I think it should be safe to publish this! These are part of the final submission that Lisa and I sent through to the competition.  These are the printed items, but we also designed a website and created an informative stop-motion animated video.
