some great type for a saturday

Amazing sticker on this old coat-hanger that's been in my wardrobe for ages. Love finding things again or even just noticing things that I haven't really noticed before.

(Please excuse the horrible quality phone picture!)

How awesome is this?? Just love it!
Found it on Pinterest, unfortunately there is no link to the original source.

Be excellent to each other

Just saw this over on Present&Correct - it made me smile and reminded me so much of this one that I saw in London two years ago...

Excellent words, definitely something we should all try and stick to.

happy easter everybody

Happy Easter to everyone that celebrated it yesterday! (Or, if you were like me, you've been celebrating all week - I'm so sick of chocolate by now!) I thought these were a bunch of great ideas, especially the first two images, so sweet!

All image sources can be found here...

Polystyrene is bad news

Here is the short stop-motion video that Lisa and I made together as part of our submission for the Sustainable Design Showcase that took place in March at the Cape Town City Hall. This video basically explains our campaign in a quick and informative way. Hope you enjoy!

No Kak in our Coffee - print elements

Now that the Sustainable Design Showcase is over, I think it should be safe to publish this! These are part of the final submission that Lisa and I sent through to the competition.  These are the printed items, but we also designed a website and created an informative stop-motion animated video.

it's not so hard

image from here

I've just come back from running a few errands, the main one being visiting the bank and showing them my proof of registration letter for this year so that they don't automatically upgrade my account to a big fat fancy pants gold graduate account (translation: massive monthly fees). Anyway, while I was waiting in line to see one of the consultants, I couldn't help but notice how rude so many of the other customers were. Sure, half of them were ancient old ladies who probably have lost it decades ago, but still, I just felt really bad for the staff. I know how shitty it is to get bad service, sure, and of course there's the trusty old "the customers always right" saying, but there's still no need to be so aggressive.

Ok, ranting done! Time to get to college...

"just my type"

Saw this on Between10and5 this morning, looks like it should be a good one!

"an exhibition featuring the typographic stylings of Ben Johnston, One Horse Town and Jason de Villiers taking place at Yours Truly in Cape Town on Friday. See you there."

progress/procrastination

Type stencils for the posters - it's taken about 2 hours to make these, but from the start of this project I have been determined to spend as little time in front of a screen and at the print shop as possible, so it's all going to be worth it.  Next step... handmade cd covers.

a happy afternoon

Say hello to my newly-stamped business cards!

Very happy with them.

better than christmas

The rubber stamps for my personal corporate identity have been ordered and will be ready for collection tomorrow afternoon. I'm so excited! Can't wait to start stamping... I have a feeling that I will end up stamping a lot more than just business cards and letterheads, soon my whole room, including my face hands and lunchbox will be covered in inky logo's and contact information and then I will need a whole bottle of Handy Andy to come clean.

Super excited!

Nonspecific type sample #12

Haven't done this for a while. Snapped this while walking to Fountain House early Wednesday morning.
Love the slant and white drop shadow!

AIM logo

Something else I did this weekend - design a logo for myself. Something I've been meaning to do for a long long time. It happened very "naturally" (can you use that in a sentence about logo design?) - it still needs work, but so far I'm happy, which is a good thing since I've been pretty unhappy about a lot of my work lately...

Simple, hand-rendered and in black ink - my favourite elements of graphic design - which is why I think it works pretty well as a little logo for myself. Getting somewhere, Sawyer!

Nonspecific type sample #11

Ok, so this also technically isn't really a type sample,
but it caught my eye and I have to add it to the list.

I'm talking about the little pencil graphic on my well-used eraser
(although the jousting horses are pretty great too!)

Nonspecific type sample #10

I saw this car parked outside in my street today, well actually first I saw the type,
was fascinated by it, then realised it belonged to a car.

Then only after downloading the pictures,
I noticed this very 80's looking sample,
pretty cool hey!

Nonspecific type sample #9

I found two of these amazing pastel boxes recently when my dad was about to throw them away! I rescued them from a tragic end and now they each have a special spot in my room.

Nonspecific type sample #8

Taken from the back page of a very old National Geographic magazine, from 1980 I think ...

Nonspecific type sample #7

My name (and date of birth) in cross stitch.
My great aunt from Canada made this for me (or maybe my parents?) when I was born.
I just really like the hand stitched type, and the bunnies!
